Donate body to science, Body donation

Body donation is a generous act of giving away the deceased?s body to a medical school or college for further research. These cadavers or corpses are very useful for medical students to understand human anatomy in detail. Earlier, medical schools used bodies of criminals who were hung for their studies. But as the demand increased due to the growing research in the field, even ordinary people started donating their bodies. If a person decides to donate body to science, he is contributing to the society as these bodies are helpful to the young medical students and many patients in future will benefit from this research.

A person wishing to donate body to science should make arrangements about it before the death. In case of absence of any document, legally, the next of kin has a right to give the consent for body donation. The relatives, attorney, spouse should be told about the documents prior to death. In some countries written statement consenting for body donation must be given before the death by the donor himself and no kin or any relative can give this consent after the death of the donor. Once the corpse or the cadaver has served its purpose, the cremation and burial cost is borne by the medical school and then given back to the family for internment
